Country enters new era after successful conclusion of elections: Prez
Kathmandu : President Bidya Devi Bhandari said that the country has ushered into a new era of political stability and economic development following successful holding of the three-tier—local, provincial and federal—elections.
While making her first address to a joint meeting of the Parliament (House of Representatives and National Assembly) on Thursday, President Bhandari said that the significant phase of the constitution implementation has been over following the parliamentary and provincial elections.
Reading out a paper that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli presented to her, she said that the successful conclusion of elections has brought an end to the protracted political transition and uncertainty and induced rays of hope for prosperity.
President Bhandari expressed her hope that Nepal will be free of corruption and called on all to join hands to put an end to corruption practices in the country.
Offering condolences to the people who sacrificed their lives for the nation, she said that time has come to fulfill the dreams of martyrs to take the country towards the path of prosperity and economic development.
Likewise, the head-of-the-state, urging for violence free society, said that the country should not involve in any kind of violence under any pretext.
Incumbent President Bidya Devi Bhandari has been re-elected as the head of state for the second time, securing nearly three-fourths of the total vote strength of the Electoral College on March 14, 2018.
She was first elected the head of state in October 2015. Prior to her election, she was the vice-chairman of UML, the post to which she was elected twice in 2009 and 2014.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, House Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Timilsena and ministers among others were present in the meeting.
